June 2009: The Hot List

You know, people tell me that I’m very up on what’s trendy right now. I’ve never given it much thought really. I just know what I like and what I read about. But since my friends tell me this repeatedly I thought; why not compile a “hot” list of things that are currently on my radar. This hot list will cover many bases: music, movies, fashion, fads, and anything else related to pop culture. So let’s get started shall we?

ENTERTAINMENT

Hottest Single: Jessie James’ “Wanted”. The debut single from newcomer Jessie James is a fun, sassy, sexy romp. With lyrics like “I want to tease you till you’re begging me” how could you not instantly love it? This is definitely the new anthem for girls! Plus, the video is hot too! Be sure to check out StarShine’s interview with Jessie James which is up now!

Hottest Charity Single: David Cook’s “Permanent”. Written about his brother Adam, who recently lost his battle with brain cancer, David performed the song on the finale episode of American Idol and fans were instantly racing to iTunes to download the performance. All of the proceeds from sales of the single will go to the charity Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2).

Hottest Music Video: Katy Perry “Waking Up In Vegas”. Done in a way only Katy Perry can, “Waking Up In Vegas” is one of the most colorful, fun music videos I’ve seen in a long time. Ranging from playing a rich snob to a Vegas showgirl, Katy seems to be enjoying every minute of it. And who wouldn’t?!

Hottest Movies: June has a lot to offer movie goers! A little bit of action, a little comedy, some romance, and some serious tears. These are the movies I’m most excited to see! “Land of the Lost” (June 5th) a re-make of the classic Sid and Marty Kroft television show from the 1970s, “My Life In Ruins” (June 5th), a romantic comedy starring Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) about a woman who rediscovers romance guiding tourists around Greece, “The Proposal” (June 19th) starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds about a guy who is forced to marry his boss to keep her from being deported, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (June 26th) the sequel to the smash hit “Transformers”; the fate of the world is in jeopardy when the origins of transformers is revealed and finally “My Sister’s Keeper” (June 26th) a tear jerker based on the book by Jodi Picoult about a young girl who seeks medical emancipation from her parents when she learns that she was born to keep her sister alive.

Hottest Summer Television Show: Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie”. Sopranos alum Edie Falco stars as Nurse Jackie, a woman who is caught between her life at a crazy New York hospital and a series of personal challenges. The show also stars ‘Twilight’s’ resident hunky doctor Peter Facinelli as a hunky doctor! Catch the series premiere Monday, June 8th at on Showtime. Check local listings for more details

Hottest DVD Release: Season 2 of Lifetime’s hit series ‘Army Wives’ hits the stores on Tuesday June 2nd! Season two was filled with drama (Trevor’s accident and subsequent addiction to prescription pills), happiness (the birth of Joan and Roland’s daughter Sarah Elizabeth) and new beginnings (Denise’s growth). Now you get to relive all of those moments! And don’t forget to check out season 3, which starts Sunday June 7th on Lifetime. Check local listings for times.

Hottest Summer Reality Show: E!’s Kendra starring Kendra Wilkinson formerly of “The Girls Next Door”. See Kendra as she tackles her new life without the comforts of the Playboy mansion. She learns how to cook, clean and take care of herself all while planning her dream wedding to NFL star Hank Baskett. There are bound to be a ton of laughs! Catch the premiere Sunday June 7th on E! Hottest Summer Clothing Trends

Maxi Dresses! The maxi (floor) length dress is absolutely perfect for summer! It’s long and flowing, which makes it great for those hot summer days but it’s also very beautiful and can be just as classy for night as it was fun for day! These dresses do all of the work themselves, just throw on a pair of cute embellished flip flop and bangles for a day out and trade them in for a glamorous strappy sandal or cute gladiator sandal for night!

Swimsuits! Whether they are bikini, tankini or one piece, make sure your suits stands out this summer! Look for things like bright solids, interesting graphic prints, sassy neutrals (instead of just plain black, look for some fun detailing to make it pop), or maybe a floral? Hottest Summer Beauty Trends

Bronzer! Why wear foundation on those hot summer days? It’s all about the bronzer baby! Just sweep it from the brow bone to the jawline and don’t forget cheeks!

Nail polish! Your tootsies will be on parade more now that the weather is nicer so why not make them pretty too? There are so many fun things to do this summer with your toes from pale pinks to bright yellows! Don’t be afraid of color! If it looks bad, you can always take it off or wear closed toed shoes!
