The Hot List: July 2009
You know, people tell me that I’m very up on what’s trendy right now. I’ve never given it much thought really. I just know what I like and what I read about. But since my friends tell me this repeatedly I thought; why not compile a “hot” list of things that are currently on my radar. This hot list will cover many bases: music, movies, fashion, fads, and anything else related to pop culture. So let’s get started shall we?
ENTERTAINMENT
Hottest Summer Single: Cobra Starship featuring Leighton Meester “Good Girls Go Bad”
This song is sure to be Cobra Starship’s breakout mainstream single! The band, favorites from the Fueled By Ramen label, is widely successful in their market but this song is getting spins on all of the mainstream radio stations. Perhaps it’s the appearance of ‘Gossip Girl’s’ Leighton Meester or maybe it’s just the song’s catchy hooks and danceable beat. Either way, this single is on the fast track to being the hottest song of the summer!
Hottest Album: Jordin Sparks Battlefield
The American Idol season six winner is back with the follow up to her debut disc. Battlefield is a blend of the style of songs that made Jordin’s first album a success. Judging by the sweeping vocals of the lead single “Battlefield”, the album is sure to be a hit. Check it out when it hits stores July 21st!
Hottest Summer Soundtrack: Hannah Montana Volume 3!
This new album from Hannah Montana, featuring songs featured on season 3 of the show as well as the soundtrack to the movie. Featuring songs like “He Could Be the One”, “I Wanna Know You” and the hot new dance track “Ice Cream Freeze (Let’s Chill)”, it’s bound to be a smash just like all of the other Hannah Montana tracks before it. Pick it up when it’s released in stores July 7th.
Hottest Summer Tour: American Idol season 7 winner David Cook is hitting the road this summer on a national tour! I get to go to see his show here in New Jersey! Check his official website www.davidcookofficial.com for dates!
Hottest July Movies: Okay so July is extra hot for movies because FINALLY the long awaited sixth Harry Potter movie comes out! “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” hits theaters on July 15th, getting the jump on the weekend box office. “The Half-Blood Prince” follows Harry and his friends still trying to take down Voldemort (oops! I said the name) and his growing army of Death Eaters. Some may be excited for Sacha Baron Cohen’s newest romp “Bruno” out July 10th, in which Bruno, a flamboyantly gay fashion writer wreaks havoc on the world trying to find out about latest fashions trends. Lastly, don’t forget to check out July’s resident rom-com, “The Ugly Truth” (July 24th) starring romantic comedy veterans Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.
FASHION and BEAUTY
Hottest Summer Accessories
Chandelier Earrings, Sky high Strappy Sandals, Boho Bangles, Funk Fresh Straw Hats, a great Statement Necklace, Print Scarves and Headbands: All of the accessories are great summer pieces that will add a little bunch to an outfit. Don’t mix too many at once but try a solid colored sundress with a couple of bangles and a cute headband or jeans and a tank with a vest, straw hat and a scarf wrapped loosely around your neck.
Sunglasses! Who doesn’t love a great pair of shades? Some of my favorite styles this summer? Aviators of course! And also, Wayfarer styles are really back in this summer so dust off those old Ray-Bans! I’m also a great advocate of the oversized frame. Not only do they block out sun, but they cover your face more, great for disguising tired eyes from a late night of summer partying!
Hottest Summer Beauty Products
Body Scrub! I can’t imagine getting through a summer without a good body scrub! It’s wonderful for sloughing off dead skin and keeping you fresh, especially when you spend your day out in the sun getting all sweaty. If you’re prone to breakouts all over your body I suggest Neutrogena’s Body Clear Body Scrub. I swear by it in the summer especially. If you still want to exfoliate without the acne fighters, try Sephora’s Bath & Body Skincare Scrubs. They come in twelve different delicious scents and trust me; you will feel super silky and smooth. Follow up with their Body Butter or Dry Spray Oil. And finally for face, I have been a loyal user of St. Ives’ Apricot Facial Scrubs for years. There are variations of the scrub for all different skin types. Remember for your face, if your skin isn’t oily, use your scrub only twice a week!
SPECIAL NOTE
I just wanted to quickly address the passing of Michael Jackson, a true innovator of all things: style, entertainment and pop culture. We lost a great icon and I want to dedicate this Hot List to his memory for everything he contributed to our lives.
Well, that’s all for this month’s edition of The Hot List! As always, let us know what YOU think is hot by leaving a comment!! And check back in August for another list of the hottest things in entertainment, fashion and pop culture!
